Long Drive Through the Snow....

We were up this morning around 4:45 to drive to Nashville - 7 hours from the house. I felt "twilight zone" sleepy on less than 4 hours, and when I quizzed Charles and learned that he had gotten about 4 hours also, I wondered how we'd make it as tired and sleepy as we both were.

He assured me that he was running on
adrenalin and was fine. Within minutes after we had stopped for a biscuit @Bo's, I covered myself up, donned my soft pillow, let the seat back, and was asleep. Awakened in Knoxville where we were driving in rain.... but I thought I saw some snow hitting the windshield.

We didn't stop to check on anything, but went barreling on down I-40 and the further West we headed, the more pronounced the snow became. We were in a full fledged snow storm by the time we got to the place where the time changes. WOOO HOOOO! And I was still sleepy and slept some more.

Some hours later, we drove out of the snow and saw what we thought might be blue sky over the Nashville area. Drove through another drive-through for a Barbe-cutie sandwich out near the hotel, ate them in the hotel parking lot and was about to check in when the cell phone rang.

Carmen. It was snowing like crazy in Knoxville, the kids were all in school, but school was about to let out. The time was about 11:30. She said Dean had been on the road from his work for an hour trying to get to the girls @ their school. The hill near Central Baptist was a "parking lot" he said and he had to turn around and try a different direction. Lukie was supposed to get his stitches out today but my guess is that he didn't and will have to do so later this week.

We came up to our room - 17th floor and absolutely beautiful! This hotel is doing a multi million dollar remodel and have worked their way from the top down to the 14th floor. This room smells like a new house. Granite countertops, built in reading lights on very tall headboard... state of the art computer hook-ups, big flat pannel TV and all modern furniture.

I called John D. right away. We were too tired to meet John and Jerrie for dinner tonight. That's a "first". I told him we were dangerous we were so out-of-it tired. We have tentatively planned for Wed. night.

Charles' first meeting was at 1:30 in Nashville so we had nearly 2 hours for him to brush up on his presentation. He was tired, but he is one determined and disciplined person. Got himself together and headed for the board room and I worked on some thank you notes, got sleepy again and laid down on the bed. Awakened this time at 4:05. OK... it's going to be an Ambien night for me or I'll be swinging from the chandeliers. I have most of a prescription left that I got filled last March. Seldom take them but when I need something to work and work well, there is Ambien. Knocks me right out for 8 hours. The only reason I can figure I've slept so much today is that I've worked so doggone hard at the house over the weekend. Just worn out.

CT came in from his meeting - it went great. He signed a letter of intent to work in this program again next year. The work is easy, the pay is good and in an economy that is awful, it helps. The $$$ we've put into this rennovation out of pocket is incredible, but it desperately needed to be done and we are constantly thanking God for it. He is good. We don't deserve any of it and we know that full well.

Several other EEs from Knoxville didn't make it to the first meeting. They waited too late to leave and the snow storm hit with a vengence so they were stuck for much of the day.

Called Jonathan who is staying at the house while we're gone. He was buying a few groceries and getting some gas this afternoon - supposed to have snow in Hendersonville tonight and tomorrow. He said Ted and crew grouted the half bath tile and painted some today. Still waiting on that doggone cabinet to come in. Jonathan said the cats were fine. If I could have had my way about it, Miss Friendly would be in this hotel room with us tonight. She is such a scream and we are so crazy about her.

Anyway.... we went out for just a few minutes tonight (around 5:45) to get some drinks for tomorrow. I can get a salad from one of the restaurants or the grill downstairs (and they are very good) for lunch, and I suppose we'll get out and about tomorrow night.

So tonight, we're going to watch some TV but CT is nearly asleep as I type. He needs a good 8 to 12 hours.
