I'm Now an Icicle..... Friday and Saturday...

Doggone. It is dangerously cold outside. One sign is the mountain laurel outside our bedroom window looks frozen! Part of Henderson County is without power tonight - Friday....transformers on overload the news said. It was 2 here this morning. We had a problem with the gas logs - regulator falted or something like that Thursday- it's fixed now. I was warm as toast Thurs. night, but announced to the "crew" this Friday morning that I would be "hold up in my bedroom all day" because it's the easiest room to heat and the crew was coming in and out of the back part of the house all day cutting tile for the kitchen - so the back part was freezing cold much of the time. The other part of the time they have their own 150,000 watt construction heater that runs off of kerosene. It will heat the back of our house in about 90 seconds and then cut off and on as the temp drops. Powerful ...

ANYWAY..... I freeze in the winter and got cold today and could NOT get warmed back up. Spent a lot of the day propped up in bed under the electric blanket trying to get some stuff done on my laptop... but I was up and down and on the move a lot with stuff going on in the house. Jason's wife came to see the house and I got to meet her. Good conversation. She's in nursing school - 3rd year. Neat young lady.

Also the TV people came again today - Friday. (we've had this service for 2 weeks and they've come to the house 3 times.) Kevin. I'm going to take up my Mother's hilarious habits and adopt Kevin. Mom has adopted her computer tec who makes a house call to fix her computers a couple of times per month. He is a household word. (I think he thinks we're all crazy and has pity on Mom). Kevin (our TV guy) was a student of Charles' in high school so he's "one of ours".... gave me his home number today so I won't have to call the 1-800 number and take a nap while I'm waiting for the service dept. from Dis*h Ne*twork to get to me.

Charles and I made a trip to Greenville Friday night to buy "stuff". (What else is new?) We got a sink for the new bathroom and a new stainless microwave to go in the kitchen. Ate at Stax and it was wonderful and inexpensive... and a good thing. He was also sporting his new HEARING AID. I cautiously am feeling as if I have my long-time husband back. The Lord knows where we are and what we need. His check up was about 6 weeks ago and he didn't get back with them right away. In the mean time, the most high end expensive one they offer gave their audiologists a price break - huge. The high-end one dropped in price to below what the middle-of-the-road one was going to cost.... so he gets the high end one at a bargain rate. (Still over 2,000 & ins. doesn't help)

Got back to the house Friday night and the pipes in the new bathroom (still in progress) were frozen even with the water running, yet I was able to was 2 loads of clothes 10 feet away in the laundry area. We cut everything off back there - everything was fine in the rest of the house, thank the Lord. But all of the new pipes were broken and we are in the process of fixing today (Saturday). While that was going on, the Spring House up behind us (and with the heat ON) froze, broke and the carpet in the hall and part of living room is WET. Also, Jonathan's place is completely frozen and he and Dan have not a drop of water.... Charles has been back and forth from the three places since 9:00 this morning. We are close to being straightened out at our house. Dan hauled several buckets of water today to flush the toilet. He works at an Inn where he can take a shower, so he's been showering at work. Charles has spent part of the day down there trying to get them thawed and trying to determine whether they have broken pipes. They had water running, trying to keep the pipes from freezing, as we did and as the Spring House did. Didn't help with temp. at 3 degrees.

It was late after CT and Jonathan checked out everything Friday night so JET decided to spend the night on a pallet on the floor in front of the fire. We'd planned to have the guest bedroom set up this weekend but it won't happen now... still have a LOT of plumbing repair to do.
