The weather outside was frightful (the song said) as Charles and I stepped out on the finger to hike through the marina and up the gangplank to get to our car. In fact, I slipped on the frozen "frost" climbing the gangplank - it's at a 35 degree angle right now. Caught myself, no damage done, praise the Lord - that could have been disasterous!
We made our way to CBC - 20 miles from where the boat is. I had a couple of gals absent - this virus has played havoc around here and got the both of them. We had a good final class together. My lesson was from Matthew 5: 14-16 and we tied it in with the LifeWay lesson on missions.
You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
We talked extensively on this and how we let our light shine in a dark and lost world - and how we look different to the world when we let our light shine..... Barbara and Ron had made a recent trip to Chicago and Barbara picked up ornaments with a message for each of us. The message written across the star ornaments? "Let your Light shine"..... The gals were amazed. I gave each of them a battery operated candle that has a 5 hour and a 10 hour timer built in. They were pricey, but I wanted to leave something tangible with these gals as a reminder to let their light shine.
The parting was very emotional for all of us. The girls are meeting next Sunday to see how they can keep the class together. I was suprised because of the vast age differences, but they have bonded and want to keep going. One of them asked me, "Can't you just come back once a month?" I was so sad when she asked that in class, because I can't.
Out in church, Charles and I were listening as Barbara's husband, Ron made the morning announcements as always. Then we heard our names called to stand. Ron was very sweet with what he said about us and our service there and our leaving CBC. We were there 45 minutes after the service was over saying goodbye to everyone.
The pic is of our beloved Reba and Joe. They used to have a house down here at the lake up on Dogwood. Joe is a retired attorney and he and Reba just took Charles and me "in" the day we joined Central Baptist.... we've had more than one birthday party around Reba's dining room table with her birthday tablecloth on - to celebrate my birthday or Charles' birthday. Wonderful people whom we love dearly. I could go on and on about them.
Barbara told me in SS that several of our good friends wanted to eat out with us on Monday night so we planned to do that. These CBC people are amazing. Will blog about that later.
