1st Sunday of Advent... Chilly, Rainy,Good...

It was SO GOOD to see my SS gals this morning! I had the table set when they arrived, complete with boxwood from the marina bushes and the Moravian goodies. They loved it.

A "P.S." to our trip to Fr*esh Mar*ket yesterday ~ We get to the car and Charles asks, "How'd you do in there?" I told him what I had spend on Salem Bakery goodies in there for SS (not inexpensive). He looked at me increduously and said, "I bought 4 Honey Crisp apples and when the gal rung them up, they were $8.00!) {$2 per apple???}

Sandra was already @ SS - she always beats me there and I'm 30 minutes early.... a word about Sandra (and she wouldn't mind)... Sandra is basically "on her own". She is single, can't afford a car, and lives several blocks from the church. Walks to our class every Sunday, rain or shine. She's a very intelligent gal - will leave at some point for college where she is already accepted. But when it comes to "proper dress", Sandra isn't in the ballpark with Christians who make dress a priority.... she wears pants, a t-shirt, and carrys a back pack. She is interested in Bible study and she's dead serious about it. Witty, sweet, and what you see is what you get, and smart as a whip and totally UN-worldly. I LOVE to encourage her. I know that I'm planting seeds for a future harvest.

We always start on time in our class, but not today. We had to get dates settled for a Christmas get-together and I only have 5 dates left in the month of December b/c CT and I are so busy on the road - leaving for Nashville in the morning to start the month out. Barbara offered to have a gathering at her house, but we can't go there b/c she won't be decorated by the first week in Dec. We decided on a restaurant. Just easier for everyone.Told them my last day to teach them will be December 14. They were shocked.... thought we'd go on into the new year. Charles and I can't do that. I KNEW God was speaking when I had the first date set to leave two months ago.

Then Sandra presents a beautiful lithograph to hang on our wall in Sunday School. Classes have names and ours is "Women at the Well".... She was a little in awe that she was bringing it in on the day that I'm announcing my final day with them. After SS we took all of the posters down from the wall and put only the picture up there. Someone measured for a frame, so maybe they will frame it. It would look pretty in that room.

Ran into "my Janet".... she wants us to go to lunch and we set a date in Dec. to do that. We're going to finish up the work in the prayer room - we totally redid it this past year and have one picture left to get framed.

Tonight is Hanging of the Green. The fog is moving in on this lake, what time it isn't pouring rain. Charles says we should stay right here. I want to go. Our Minister of Music asked me to rewrite all of the speaking parts last year and I'd love to just sit this year and "listen" without having a part myself. I could tell some tales about our being involved with Hanging of the Greens at Central over the past 5 years. Last year everything was different - we had the minstral singers to carol on the street corner as worshippers were coming into the sancturary... there was an aire of "Charles Dickens" about it. I'd hate to be standing out in the pouring rain THIS year.... anyway, it was an exciting time - and that's when Lukie hung himself upside down in the pew right behind where I was sitting to do the part I had written for one of the ministers, but Bob said I'd be the most familiar with it, so would I please do it? Luke about gave me a heart attack.... Anyway.... a big night at church bringing in the Christmas Season - the first Sunday of Advent...., but the fog is coming straight for us. We can't see to drive on a clear night any more, much less a rainy one. Add fog to the mix and we're as dangerous as a cocked cannon.
