Grandma Ladd's Cutting Board.....

Now Carmen Denise, this one's for you.... with all of the cooking you do for my grandchildren, you could use this one day when I'm finished with it.

Grandma Ladd (Mother's mother) used to bake the BEST Christmas cookies on this earth. I can STILL taste them today. Any time I ever come across a cookie that is a hint of what her's used to taste like, I buy more than one bag.... and that's happened one time in my 60 years of life. That bag of cookies came from Mar((shall's and they were made in CA.

The doggone thing is, Grandma Ladd didn't have a recipe. It was a pinch of this and a pinch of that. I remember earlier years in my marriage when I tried over and over again to use what Mother gave to me as the "only recipe" for those cookies ....and being disappointed every time. Finally I quit trying - didn't need those confections anyway, but HOW I'd love to have just one of those cookies today! I'd probably kill for the second one!

I have Grandma's cutting board on the boat and I use it daily. It has to be over 100 years old now. I just may have to take it back to the remodeled kitchen in Hendersonville when it's finished, we'll see. It's a treasure to me and my Grandma Ladd was a treasure, too.

She died on Nov. 21 when I was in 7th grade. I thought I wouldn't live to catch my next breath when she left this world. I adored her - she put the "Grand" in Grandmother.
