MeMe Camp .... Closed 4 the Season.....

Gosh - Where has the time gone this summer? We were supposed to leave for Nashville today - I'm up because I went to bed early and now I can't sleep. (Aging ain't for sissies)... Anyway... we would have been on the road for the huge fall conference to begin the new s chool year for the school consultants @ the state dept..... but the state dept. suddenly changed the date for the conference and we are "free" until mid-August. Woo Hoo - I wasn't ready for the new year to begin anyway.

Dean and his gaggle of youngins arrived around 9:45 on Friday night. Scarlett was still in the hot tub and the other kiddos piled out of the Excursion with swimming on their minds.

(Note: The white & orange was Scarlett's attire for hauling wood - ever the little model)

Got into swim suits and into the hot tub with their sister - all except for Luke. He was slam outta luck. No way was Dean letting that kid in the hot tub in the dark like that, plus he didn't have any swim trunks... so Lukie ran around in his diaper gathering water. Poor kid. He kept telling his dad he "needed a diaper, it didn't have peepee, it had WATER".... he was pitiful. He had been splashed so many times by the girls, he took on water and lots of it.

I took him in and changed him - and that diaper must have weighed 10 pounds - all hot tub water. He was one grateful little fellow. He's funny anyway - comes out with the most outlandish things that are way beyond a normal 2 year old - but when you live in a house with six other people, it just happens. If you're within hearing range of him, you go, "HUH? How can this little thing come out with something like THIS?.. and he is just putting words together to make sentences and questions"....

While they swam, I fluffed all the beds. We closed the hot tub for the evening around 11:00 and got the kiddos in bed. Savannah and Scarlett slept on the new pull-out. Those two were so happy to see one another they had the giggles and couldn't get to sleep - until the Meem sat by their bed until they quietened down and dozed off. Then Summerlyn and I curled up on the window seat in the office where she said she planned to sleep next trip over (assuming it's finished). The cat joined us and we had girl talk for about 15 minutes before MeMe signed off for the evening. It was going on 1 AM by then.

Charles was up early on Saturday.... and out to get Bo's sausage biscuits for all of us. No hot tubbing on Saturday. Dean was determined the kids would play in the yard (what yard?). Fine with me as long as MeMe didn't have to come out there. Too much to do inside.

Dean helped Papaw with the huge tree.... and decided to make the kids work a little. They stacked wood as Papaw sawed up the tree. I could not believe how much work they did. There are stacks and piles of wood everywhere. Of course Lukie was running wild. Papaw was just sure he would meet the rest of our family out there - the two (at least) huge black snakes.... but he didn't. He just explored and got dirty.

Around 12:30 we ate lunch and the girls and I (and eventually Luke) played "Go fish".... and then Luke and I sat in the sun room swing and read the "tiger book"... his favorite pop up book....

Around 1:00, Bill M. came up from Greenville with Megan - who is Summerlyn's good friend and was going back to Knoxville with them to spend the week . Carmen and Sherry have been great friends since being at Hickory Grove Church in Charlotte when their kids were very young. Doll of a family, and they have moved back to the Greenville area (both Bob Jones grads). Anyway, Dean had everyone loaded in the car shortly after Bill left and they were on the road for Knoxville. Lots of hugs and kisses from the grands and THEN........ the house was quiet. MeMe Camp was closed for the season, all of the Coco Krispies were gone and Papaw and I didn't know what to do!

We decided our best option was to go find food, and headed for Greenville - went in L's to buy a ceiling fan for the office/bedroom and inside the store, we remembered that our carpet is in.... We picked it up and took it to our new car - and could NOT make it fit. No way. I'm sure we looked like two old idiots. So he hauled it back inside and we'll have to pick it up in the truck. We surely missed our minivan at that moment!

Came home, visited with Jonathan, watched an old Billy Graham service on TV and I went to bed early - so tired - but am UP in the middle of the night trying to get sleepy again and it's raining outside and I just remembered I left the cushions out. They can wait. I'm off to bed.
