Wonderful Evening.....

Rain Rain, most of the day.... It has poured here at the house. Charles and Jonathan spent the day in Hendersonville trading cars... we traded in the white minivan we've driven hard for 4 years. We're in another "superintendent's car" which is what I've called "old people's cars" for years....ha - the kind my parents drive..... and back "when", many of the cars the superintendents drove were state cars.

Anyway, I did NOT want that kind of car - would have settled for another minivan... WANTED the Saab station wagon Charles found and took me to see, but two days ago the dealership saw a red engine light come on when they were driving it. THAT ended THAT. I was heart broken. My volvo wagon is still in Tennessee where I have NOT driven it in 7 summers... or autumns or winters or springs. I am not a happy camper about my car, but Charles promises I'm going to get it back from the guy who is supposed to be getting it "road ready".... for the past ...nearly 2 years. Get the picture?

So we have a new car.... new to us.... and I think we'll enjoy it. God is good to send this car for us.

Scarlett maxed and relaxed again today with Spongebob. The weather has not cooperated and she did not get up until 10:30 this morning. I fixed eggs and bacon for her and she ate it all and went scurrying back to the sunroom TV - laid in the swing in her nightie and pigged out on her favorite program that she doesn't get at home.

I called Caro-Mi Dining in Tryon for reservations for tonight - for 5 people for six o'clock. We took Jonathan's girlfriend, Joann with us to eat. By the time we had finished with our meal, the place was totally packed with people. Popular off-the-beaten-path place to dine.

Joann teaches music in the schools here - elementary. Sweet gal and she and Jonathan seem to get along great... have dated for several months. Time will tell. Charles and I like her a lot too. Her life story is amazing. Her mom died when she was six.... raised by her grandmother who died when Joann was in college at Appalachian..... she had absolutely nothing and had to depend on scholarships and the Lord to get her through. Had every reason to call it quits, but said she did not want the life she grew up in and knew she had to do something to make a difference for herself..... Her school story perfectly matches Charles' school story except it was Charles' daddy who was dead and his mother had breast cancer when he was in college. They know what hard times are all about. Joann was an honor student in high school and college. She is a hard working gal and we think the world of her.

Scarlett LOVES music and we told her that Miss Pace is just like her music teachers at her school back in Knoxville. She thought that was great and held hands with Miss Pace all evening and ate beside her at the dinner table tonight....AND sang America for her.... took right "to her"... Miss Pace, loving little kids, did wonderfully with Scarlett. They were instant buddies.

The meal was interesting to say the least. If you know Caro-Mi's menu.... fried chicken, or country ham, or mountain trout, baked.... or chicken livers.... or shrimp/scallops.... or steak.... or several other entrees and then all of the boarding house trimmings. Our server was Dorothy - OUR Dorothy who worked for my hairdresser, Judy Denton in Polk Co. for years and years. Dorothy retired last month and just wanted something to do. We had a grand reunion as she brought our food, etc.

After we left Caro-Mi, we took a trip down memory lane.... back to Foxwood Hills where we built our first house in Tryon, NC.... a log cabin 31 years ago. We cannot believe the neighborhood now. We were the second house in there and there must be 40 very upscale homes in there now.... our log cabin is different from the other homes in there. I wouldn't really call it "upscale" because of the materials it is made from.... but we helped start that development and what in the heck did WE know at the time? We were 30 year old kids.

The Tryon area is extremely beautiful - more-so than ever before. The lady that owns Caro-Mi & I had a little reunion tonight. She remembered my shop and all of the basketweaving etc. etc. that took place during the hay-day of Tryon back in the 80's. She was extremely nice and glad we make contact. My old shop is now a doctor's office. The building still has the "village" feel to it, but the big bakery next door is another business now, too and the Vermont Castings store is now a ladies' day spa.

Got ice cream in Columbus and drove back up the mountain to get Jonathan's and Joann's cars from Roscoes where they had left them parked. They went back to her house to watch a movie.

Great day. Beautiful evening!
