We were excited as we traveled to Abingdon, VA to get to NC - a tradition for us. We love the little town of Abingdon anyway. Saw THE best Christmas play at the Barter Theatre, we've ever seen in Dec, 2001 - right after the attack on the twin towers. Also, I love to shop in the antique stores in Abingdon. Have found some neat things there through the years at Christmas.
We stopped at our favorite deli... grabbed a sandwich and some of their "to-die-for" pasta salad... It has tiny pieces of celery, chopped green olives, purple onion, egg, pasta, mayo, and a little olive juice from the pickle jar.
We ate and traveled, because we wanted to get to Mother's house before bed-time. Did our "traditional" thing on the way into Winston-Salem, and went by M*r. Bar*be*cue....... and they must have changed hands because the BBQ we took to the house was nearly unedible.
Talked with Mother, but I went to bed early - just too bushed to stay up. It was good to be back home again. Things aren't the same since daddy died, but the memories are still there and so is Mom who keeps them alive. As I said, GOOD to be back home for a couple of days.
