Thanksgiving, 2008.....
Jonathan, Charles and I enjoyed some good max and relax time on the boat this morning. The two of them had brought breakfast "in" and I had cleaned and mopped (I do this nearly daily - takes about 30 minutes) while they were out and about.
Jonathan
said he slept really well last night and got too warm so had to turn the heat back a little, but I'm relieved he slept well. He and the grands have opted to do a pallet in the floor with the outside cushions. More comfortable, takes less room.
We headed out to Carmen's around
12:30.
"The farm" was a bustle of activity... 22 pound turkey cooking - veggies, casseroles, layered salad - it was like a Baptist covered dish dinner! We enjoyed favorite foods that we do not eat during the year... and traditional desserts.
It was interesting to watch the girls do their chores - They are finally old enough
to be a great help to Carmen. They have "dish nights" where it's their responsibility to clear the table and load the dishwasher and wash the overflow by hand. Today happened to be Scarlett and Savannah's day - and Lukie was determined to help. They were an absolute HOOT, but to their credit, they got it done. Lukie simply climbs up on the dishwasher door and hangs on to the rack to help - see bottom pic.
We
saw the new lamb, watched several of the sheep outside of the fence... the weather was beautiful, and we just felt so blessed to be able to have this kind of time together.
Put Jonathan on the road a little past 4:00. He called a couple of times en route. Little to no traffic, unlike his 4 hour trip over here yesterday that usually takes 2.5 hours (bumper to bumper traffic on I-40).
Talked
with Carolyn tonight - my Nashville friend who had some awful surgery last week. She's doing better than she was last week - sounded good, but didn't have a good day today. We're hoping and praying that after the several back surgeries she's had previous
to this one, that she will be good to go for a long time to come.
All in all, a great Thanksgiving day with our kids and grandkids.
