In NC ~ Winter Has Arrived!

Today at the boat, the pumping people came around - winter contract time - to pump the holding tanks on the houseboats. It was like a Spring day outside! In fact, I sat out on the porch and talked with Ricky for 20 minutes. It's always a Sunday School lesson with that boy and he loves being out on the lake and if owning the septic company that pumps holding tanks on houseboats is the only way he can spend his days on the water, then so be it. He laughs at me because I can't stand the smell of his boat and says, "It stinks to you but it smells like money to me!" A young couple trying to make a living in the world.

I cleaned on the deck boat and it felt "normal" again on the water - not like it was going under like last night.

Took a lot more stuff out of the boat when we left today. The only things left are a scant few clothes, our groceries, a small stash of Sunday School materials and a few scrapbooking supplies. That's the way it needs to be.

Went to Lakeshore and picked up the cats for their final ride across the mountain. They are NC cats now - won't go back to Lakeshore. Ran into Roger across the street from the house.

Several people have asked point blank how we are staying warm on that boat. We have assured them that we're 70 degrees in there without using the rooftop heat. Roger insisted that we be able to get into his house any time we need to... showed us where the heat turns on, told us to sleep in any bed in the house we wanted to... just very nice.... told us how to turn on the gas logs in case the power goes out.

One of the people at the dock store lives right behind the house on Lakeshore - told us in the parking lot this afternoon, "If you two need ANYTHING, I "expect" you to call me." Very nice again. We assured him that we're warm and doing great thus far.

Truth is, Sophia and Wayne told us to keep our keys to the house when we left - so we can go there any time. Totally nice!

The drive to NC was good, but the temp. had dropped dramatically. Received an email from a friend in Alabama asking if we were seeing any snow.... not yet.

Got to the house and was met with a huge suprise. Part of Ted's crew came in this week and took the kitchen apart... tore all the cabinets down, fixtures... all gone. That means they're here and working on it now. Appliances arrived yesterday. New stove is awesome!!! Things are moving right on and we expect them to be finished in time for us to celebrate Christmas - even if on a limited basis....Lots going on in this house!
