My Mom is going to love this.
I decided to call DELL tonight. We started on my laptop around 7:00. It is 1:35 in the morning and we aren't finished yet.
Theproblem is that this machine got 3 Trojans and they embedded themselves in my ANTIVIRUS files.... hid themselves.
Back to the beginning.... I called DELL. They took a look by taking over my computer and said I had a virus going on and sent me to ONCALL. $260.00 later...... 6 hours and 30 minutes later with two of them calling me back - 1 on Sunday and 1 on Monday - they didn't get through.....
The $260 is for protection on Charles' laptop (2 months old - a Dell) and my laptop for one year from today. Now if between the two of us, we get more than three viruses, on the 4th call we will be charged again - but we have 3 big incidence calls left on this $260 charge between us.
A couple of VALUABLE things I learned:
1. If your mouse seems to "open" stuff as you are going from the left side of a page to the right, there's something wrong according to DELL. I mean... if the curser slides over a pop-up or an advertisement and you didn't click on it but it opens anyway.... be careful.
2. If something like that DOES open, NEVER hit "cancel"..... Underneath the word "cancel" is permission for that file or a hidden file to download onto your computer. Never hit cancel. Go to the red "X" at the top right and close it that way.... and that's the only way to close it. Don't touch anything else.
3. Our next virus protection is going to be Norton 360. This virus protection has new features that will catch viruses, trojans, and spyware..... take it off of your computer, and basically do what we had to pay DELL big bucks to do tonight. NORTON 360.....
Sometimes I don't know where spending money on these machines will END. It's like a car. You can pay cash for it, but be prepared to shell out more cash in upkeep. What was life like BEFORE we had computers? Don't even get me started. For starters, we had more cash.
A lot has happened this week. I'll make note of it tomorrow. Right now, I'm heading for bed. It's nearly 2:00 A.M.
