I haven't forgotten.... Jonathan was 8. He was a "busy" 8, too. We had sawdust flying everywhere in that kitchen - had the cabinets fixed to the floor - I mean FIXED... If something called for 2 nails, Charles Thomas put 4 nails....and this part of the kitchen had been Mrs. Thomases outside laundry porch - the floor was concrete. So before we could get the sawdust up from what we were working on, Jonathan strolls through with a gallon of fresh sweet tea and drops it.
We had sawdust soup.
The tea ran under the new cabinets and we could NOT get to it to clean it up. Since we were on a cement slab I poured water on it and it ran under there too, and off the slab I imagined. It's a wonder we hadn't had ants until the cows came home, but suprisingly we did NOT. But I had choir practice that night and went into choir fussing about what that kid had done. One of the asst. superintendents for the school system was in our choir and he laughed so hard when he found out about Jonathan dropping all of that tea! I'll never forget it. And of course Charles heard about it from Kholan the next day.
So when the crew pried up all of those cabinets, there was a mixture of what was left of the dried tea and sawdust - 22 years old. Does that sound nasty or what?? I just tried not to think about it and hoped the water had washed it completely away all of those years. It hadn't.
We had use of Jonathan this morning to move some heavy pieces of furniture out of the kitchen area. He had to be at work by noon. The guys worked around it this past week - in fact, we didn't know they were going to be here. Ted said they would start on the kitchen December 1.
Anyway, the entertainment cabinet which is nearly 7 feet tall and weighs about 500 pounds, was moved and damaged on the bottom. We can fix it, but that thing takes two grown men at the least to get it moved, and Jonathan and his dad worked part of the morning to get it back into the den. There was also a large corner cupboard to get out of there and a ton of smaller stuff. Finally got it done.
Charles worked all afternoon on a pocket door dividing the kitchen/laundry area from what will be his office and full bath. I think we're going to just buy a new French door instead of trying to use one of the antique ones to go there. But the idea is wonderful and what we have up at the moment looks great. What a cozy "spot" CT will have back here, and I'm loving the idea of French doors all around this house. I like French doors in a cottage setting.
Drove down the mtn. tonight to T. Rest and got a club sandwich. I looked carefully at them - we think they're the BEST... and told CT that when our stove is installed, we can easily do those club sandwiches on our griddle!
We'll be leaving tomorrow for the lake, but it will be late in the afternoon. CT has to go to a retirement bash at Nor*th Hen*ders*on for Kenny. He plans to spend the afternoon with them out there - first time since he retired. He will have a ball with those people! I'm staying here working - don't want to be a tag-along. I'd go if we were just "dropping in" on our way out of town but that isn't the case.
Tomorrow will be a long day
